Here’s the Tea

Who am I?

My name is Micaelyn (mi-kay-lin) and I used to be an advertising sales executive. Like so many others, the year 2020 completely changed my life. I left my job and became a full-time mom. My son was 5 months old then, and now he’s a rambunctious little toddler — and I’m still at home with him.

On the positive side, 2020 helped me pinpoint people, things, habits, and behaviors that were no longer serving me and forced me to re-examine my priorities. On the other hand, it also tremendously impacted my mental and emotional health.

I first started struggling with insomnia when I was a junior in college, and it brought me to my knees. There were a lot of factors at play, and no single thing helped me break out of the cycle, but eventually, I did get on top of it. I started meditating, doing yoga, started drinking tea instead of coffee or energy drinks, and experimenting with essential oils.

All of those things helped, but I didn’t get lasting, consistent relief until I went on anti-depressant medication. Unfortunately, I had to stop taking the medication when I got pregnant and while I was breastfeeding, which — between being a new mom and living through a global pandemic — created the perfect circumstances for my insomnia, depression, and anxiety to return in full force.

These days, I’m back at work as an independent consultant providing advertising sales services, graphics design, copy editing, digital ad trafficking, and more — and still managing to keep insomnia at bay. Follow along to find out how!

Why did I start a blog?

It was that resurgence of mental and emotional health issues that inspired me to create this blog, so that I could offer insight into what did and didn’t work for me and maybe — just maybe — help someone else find solutions that work for them, too.

That being said, I’m not a one-dimensional person and there are many things in my life outside my struggle with insomnia that I’m eager to share and discuss, from stay-at-home mom life to cleaner living that minimizes waste and toxins, and my passion for tea.

Also, as an independent contractor, I needed a place to showcase my services as well as my portfolio of clients — you can click here to view the services I provide.

What will I blog about?

While you’re here, you can expect to get sleep tips — everything from basic sleep hygiene to different tools you can use to support your sleep — as well as tips for reducing waste and living cleaner, decreasing your toxic load, and essential oil DIYs, tips, and tricks. Because I’m a work-from-home mom, you’ll also get a healthy dose of WFHM drama and toddler nonsense!

I hope you find value here, and I’m so excited to have you along! Be sure to subscribe to get new posts delivered straight to your inbox, and if you’re looking for even more content, follow along on Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest.
